Goals

In 2007, the executive board of the MACR was held truly accountable for the first time in years. Having established a measurable set of goals, the board accomplished and surpassed every goal it had set for itself in 2007.

We have set new, measurable benchmarks for the success of the MACR in 2008 and urge you to keep track and hold us accountable as the coming year progresses. Please read carefully our plans for the future and get ready to help us reestablish two-party politics in Massachusetts:

Media

This year, the MACR received major publicity in the Boston Globe, the Lowell Sun, the State House News Service, and many local and campus newspapers and television programs.

This publicity has greatly improved the ability of the MACR to spread its conservative message, expand to new campuses, and raise much-needed funds from donors who had previously never read about the effects of College Republican efforts.

In 2008-09, we aim to expand our presence in news media and to advertise College Republican events to other CRs and to the general public through press releases, MACR regional communications, and our newsletter, the MACR Update.

New online media will continue to play an expanding role in the communications and effectiveness of the MACR as we embrace YouTube, SMS text messaging, and podcasts as methods of coordination.

Expansion

This November, Republican candidates at every level will need all the volunteers we can give them. With much of the necessary infrastructure having been put into action in 2007, the Executive Board can now switch to a focus on growing clubs at the local level.

As we continue to assist with the creation of several new College Republican clubs in every region of the state, we plan to take the fight to new campuses and to use the MACR newsletter, online calendar, social events, and regional infrastructure to grow and unify existing clubs for the November 2008 elections and beyond.

Cohesion

In addition to our regular weekly Executive Board conference calls, the MACR will hold bi-weekly conference calls open to club chairs across Massachusetts to advertise events and to coordinate for funding, materials, volunteers, and attendance. The opportunity for club chairs to interact and organize with one another directly will prove invaluable for interclub relations and help every club have more successful and better-attended events.

The introduction of the STORM online network will allow new ways to communicate and coordinate with College Republicans across the commonweath and throughout the country.  We plan to continue to use STORM in new and innovative ways to unify CRs in Massachusetts.

Furthermore, the MACR will continue its promise to host at least one statewide social event per semester and to expand the roles of the regional vice chairs to provide relevant and up-to-date information about opportunities in their respective regions.

Integration

In 2007-08, Brian Gwozdz, Jacob Ventura and their team repaired and built relationships with the Massachusetts Republican Party, the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans, and conservative donors and activists throughout the commonwealth. These relationships have helped the MACR become more successful and better recognized as a serious force in Republican politics.

Throughout the coming year, the MACR will seek to expand these healthy relationships to use them to our advantage in co-hosting events and sharing resources and volunteers. The importance of maintaining these relationships cannot be overstated in such an important election season.

Please consider our plans for the future of the MACR. Comments and feedback addressed to gwozdzb@bc.edu would be greatly appreciated.
