Colin Motley
Executive Vice Chairman

Experience

Colin is a sophomore at Harvard majoring in Economics with a minor in Government. After being elected Vice President for Campaigns and Activism of the Harvard Republican Club as a freshman, Colin initiated a variety of projects for the MACR's Most Active Chapter in 2007, ranging from two Support Our Troops donation drives to a literature campaign in favor of private accounts for Social Security to biweekly bus trips to New Hampshire to campaign for GOP primary candidates. He was re-elected to the same position in the fall.

As part of his responsibilities in the Harvard Republican Club, Colin project-managed the MACR Spring 2007 Convention hosted at Harvard, where he was elected MACR Eastern Vice Chair. Despite his role as an outsider on the board, Colin quickly asserted himself as an effective communicator with schools in the Eastern Region, assembling the most complete contact list in recent history and contributing both to the accession of new chapters (such as Stonehill College) and the reinvigoration of previously active clubs (like the Harvard Kennedy School). Colin's efforts helped secure an impressive turnout of Eastern Region delegates to the Fall 2008 Convention at Tufts University.

Due to his success as Eastern Vice Chair, Colin was promoted to MACR Treasurer to fill a vacancy due to resignation. In that role, he organized the exhibition hall at the Fall Convention, which brought in hundreds of dollars to the MACR through vendor contracts, and has also worked to establish a comprehensive list of prospective Massachusetts donors to the College Republican cause.

Vision

The past year has seen impressive increase in the activity and visibility of the MACR thanks to the leadership of Chairman Brian Gwozdz. However, after running on an anti-apathy platform as Eastern Vice Chair last year, I think there's more to be done to revitalize the College Republican and conservative cause in Massachusetts. Because the true strength of the MACR lies in the campus-level chapters that constitute it, I believe the Executive Vice Chair position presents the perfect opportunity to lead a new and enthusiastic CR charge in Massachusetts.

The importance of experience for the next Executive Vice Chair cannot be overstated. Consistent effort is required to keep the channels of communication open with chapters around the state, and as a former regional vice chair, I know what it takes to make sure that no club feels left out or marginalized in the MACR's decision-making process. It will also be vital to continue to reach out to new and formerly-active campuses in regions all across the state - Eastern, Central, and Western - to support and facilitate the growth of CR clubs in the harsh conditions they face on liberal Massachusetts campuses.
In true Republican fashion, I will not seek to advance ideas from above, but rather to capitalize on the innovation at individual chapters through better inter-club dialogue and a commitment to make the MACR a partner in efforts by each club to sponsor events, host speakers, and participate in activism and campaigning.

I look forward to another productive and even more successful year under Brian's leadership, and I am proud to be a part of his team.
